Something Old Something New

Every Wednesday, the Lilypad has items that are marked down 50% just for the day. I always love working with Sara Gleason’s templates but Kate Hadfield’s doodles are a newly acquired love!! It’s amazing what using a few of them can add to the story.  I’ve found a new thing I love to collect!!

Both layouts are using Sara’s Summer Garden templates, one also uses Kate’s School Sports doodles.

Nuclear Museum (one of the layouts about Tommy’s Philmont trip)

Journaling reads:
This was your second visit to the National Museum of Nuclear Science in Albuquerque, NM. You enjoyed the World War II exhibit the most. Your favorite thing about the museum is that it does try to explain the numerous effects of the nuclear age from World War II up to the Cold War including its effect on pop culture. It focuses on the many applications of nuclear energy in the past, present and future.

Second one is about Elysse’s love for sports
Journaling reads:
My daughter, a sports lover? Really? This I would have never imagined as I am definitely not a sports follower. This love for sports had to have come from your dad. You’ve said your female friends just don’t “get it” but your male friends think it’s great that you LOVE sports and are really knowledgable about them too. I think it’s awesome that you can talk Fantasy Football with your brother as a shared hobby. You regularly attend Miami Dolphins football games, Miami Heat basketball games and now soccer matches with Jorge in Miami. How lucky for you to find a guy who loves sports like you do!

Last one to get current

I am amazed by the sheer number of layouts I’ve done as a guest polly at the Lilypad in July. I have done 27 layouts!! That has GOT to be a personal best for me!

Tommy has been at Philmont for the last several weeks taking in the beauty of nature. He arrived home late last night, stinky and happy to be home!  I know I’ll be scrapping a lot of his photos over the next couple of weeks. He sent me just a couple of photos from the first couple of days while he still had cell service. I wanted to scrap one of them. This was taken with his iPhone 4s and it’s awesome camera.  I definitely have camera envy now!

Journaling reads:
When you arrived in Albuquerque, New Mexico the crews rode the aerial tram to the top of Sandia Peak as part of your acclimation to the change in elevation there. I love that you sat down so that your hiking boots could be in the photo. It gives real context to what this trip was all about – your love of the great outdoors!

Olympic Fever

I really am an Olympics addict!  I will sit around here and watch whatever coverage is on any time that I am home AND I’ll watch results during the day at work too. Actually as we speak I am watching the parade of nations after the start of the opening ceremony. I was really hoping that Kate Hadfield would have some Olympic doodles because I thought they would be perfect to document a layout or two.

The photo used in the background is one I took in London when I went with Aida several years ago. I wanted to enlarge one and blend it in to the background as an added feature.

Another birthday layout for Elysse

Strike a Pose… that kit name definitely brought to mind the little photo shoot we had on Elysse’s 21st birthday when they got all dressed up to go out that night. We joked about how Elysse generally has an idea in her mind about how she wants photos to look. She’ll be very specific about how she wants a photo of her to be “framed”.  She said “Mom, just knees up” or “feet, too”.  She’ll have you move to the right or left so that the scene is uncluttered. We ended up with a lot of photos, then Ashley said that we needed some silly ones too.  I knew I had to use some of those with this kit!  The kit is by Amy Wolff from The Lilypad and Little Butterfly Wings from One Story Down (but Valeria hangs out at the Lilypad too ; )

A photo from Elysse

I really love camera phones and how they enable the kids to share little parts of their days with me. One of the reasons that Elysse chose Boca was the fact that the beach was close. She likes being able to go to the beach at different hours of the day because it is so near to her. Our family has always loved walks on the beach at sunset. The sun is not blazing hot, there is always a breeze and it’s really peaceful then. So when she sent a photo of that time of day I knew I wanted to scrap it.

Another childhood layout

I was inspired to pull a photo out of my project bin of my first dog.  This was a story that I hadn’t told yet.

Journaling reads:
Her name was Stacia Lyn’s Lady Holly but Daddy always called her Holly Girl and that name stuck. I got her as a very small puppy for a Christmas present. I fell in love with her the moment I saw her. My parents took me to a pet store three days before Christmas. Looking back on it, I wonder now if it might have been on purpose. I mean who takes a little girl into a pet shop to look at puppies and doesn’t expect her to want one?? She was MY first pet. She slept in bed with me, laid next to me when we watched tv out in the big room on the floor. One of her favorite spots to sleep was on the big green pillow we used to watch tv. Her other favorite spot was on the top step of the pool. Mom kept the water level in the pool regulated so that she could sleep there on the top step to stay cool.

New chalk artist and concrete items

Here is where trying to use products for CT requirements is challenging. Kim Jensen came out with really cute chalk art doodles and paper to look like concrete. I was envious (only for a couple of seconds though) of people with younger kids that might actually HAVE photos of their kids doing this. For me, of course, this was YEARS ago! So I let the idea percolate for a couple of days and decided to focus on my daughter’s innate craftiness. She truly has been artsy her whole life. She puts me to shame! She pins  lots of home decor projects on Pinterest but she actually DOES hers! She’s painted canvasses for gifts and for her own room. Those melted crayon canvasses were awesome!

One from my childhood

I was inspired to use some beach photographs from my childhood, me wearing pink in this beautiful white sand.  I’m really loving the wood look of digi papers right now, especially the weathered painted wood ones. The most recent painted wood papers from Sahlin Studio are gorgeous!! One of the things I love most about digi is that you can recolor things fairly easily. This particular paper was yellow and white but I wanted it to be pink. Easy peasy!

A cute Alice layout

When I saw these Christmas tree light doodles I immediately thought of a photo of Alice from last Christmas.  She actually let me put up a tree last year.  We didn’t put any ornaments on it for a week to make sure that she wouldn’t be climbing through it like the last year. We still didn’t put anything breakable on it even after that! But the first night we did put some lights on it. She sat in there in the dark, laying under the tree gazing at the lights. Elysse grabbed the camera and took some of the most amazing photos of her.

Holiday Baking

This was such a fun kit to come out during the Lilypad’s Christmas in July sale. Because we have that Holiday Baking Day every year here at the house, OF COURSE I have plenty of cooking baking photos to use.
