Finally got around to making a layout about this. On August 2nd, I was in the car driving out of the driveway when I noticed the sign in the front yard. I COULD NOT believe it! I don’t even water the lawn. I will say the lawn service I use is excellent, great attention to detail, they do a phenomenal job for me. I also think the new paint colors with the black roof are really pretty. I haven’t even taken down my fall floral arrangements from last year from the front door area.
I guess somebody really likes it! I certainly had to call Mom about it. There is a running joke in our family about my brown thumb. How this apple could have fallen so far from my mother’s tree is hilarious! If I ever even get GIVEN a flower or plant, I should just send it right home with Mom because I’ll certainly kill it.

One of the weekly challenges at Digital Designer Shop this week was to do a layout using a different color scheme, colors you generally don’t use. I realize I usually use either purple, turquoise or black for layouts about my daughter. I know it’s strange to say that her college colors are “unusual” but they are for layouts about her. I like the way it turned out! I used Cilenia’s School Days kits for papers and stamp, her new Chipboard Alpha and Marcie’s newest Quick Page Template.

When we were moving stuff between the kids bedrooms when they were switching rooms, I found a waterproof disposable camera. It wasn’t in the plastic and the number implied that it was used so we sent it to Snapfish for developing. What a happy surprise!! The missing photos from your Out Island Adventure at Florida Sea Base in the Keys way back in July 2008. We went through them one by one with Tommy telling me what things were. Photos of Key Deer all around and in their campsite, photos of some of the other scouts, one of his VERY sunburned legs and several from one of their fishing trips. Apparently, they caught and released nurse sharks and Tommy a barracuda. They also caught fish that they were able to keep. There’s one shot where they are all holding their fish and one with all of their fish on the dock. Tommy pointed to the largest fish and said ” See that BIG fish, Mom… that one is mine…I’m just sayin’ ”
I started with an idea that ran around in my head for about a week before I actually got this layout completed. It turned out just the way I pictured.

Another gorgeous paper pack by Cilenia Curtis at Digital Designer Shop, love the color palette of the new Basic Set 1. I also love the newest of the layered quick templates, Simply You. You can use them as-is or you can customize any or all of the layers as you wish. When I saw this template and the new paper pack I just KNEW what I wanted the layout to be about. Elysse just painted her new room a very bright teal. I took a picture of her in there the other night that I thought was great and was really wanting to use it.
Here’s my take on it:

Tamara “goosed” me a week ago or so to work on my July 10-10-10 by the deadline. I finally got to work on it a little last night and finished up tonight. I bought some Yin Designs templates earlier this year when she had a big sale (I just love her 24 x 12 templates! She has really interesting multi-photo templates!). Then I started tooling around in some of my supplies from Digital Designer Shop. I can always get inspired in there, the textures are amazing and there are so many colors and styles to choose from. At that point, I was waiting on Tommy to download some of his photos from Scout Jamboree. I definitely had to include one of them for July! I finished up with little embellies and the journaling tonight.
I’m definitely going to try to do it earlier next month!

I feel like I live in paint prison this week! Elysse will be going back to college in less than two weeks now. She and Tommy are going to switch bedrooms so that Tommy can have the larger one now that she’ll no longer be living here on a permanent basis. More room for him, larger closet for the clothes horse (not that he cares about them, we just buy him clothes!) and his own bathroom. No longer will I have to check the bathroom before company comes over to see if his retainer is in the sink!!
Of course, moving means painting!! She decided on teal for her new room (so teal over light green). We picked out a Patriots theme for Tommy’s room and he liked the idea (so light gray and med/dark blue over purple). She was thinking about the furniture and said she’d like black furniture. I suggested painting Tommy’s furniture black and letting him use the other (more drawers for Mr. Keep Everything). So for days now, all the furniture has been in the living room and dining room. Some furniture has been sanded and painted black. All their drawers (yep, them too) are in the living room. We spent yesterday painting two walls gray in Tommy’s new room and finished Elysse’s teal. We still have to do the blue two walls today. We can move their beds out and into the living room so that we can switch the rooms for beds. Then they can deal with putting their own stuff into drawers in their rooms after that. So basically it looks like their rooms exploded!! I can’t stand the mess. I also realize I’m getting older as my back is killing me from the painting yesterday…
I’ll have some photos of the new rooms.
One thing I did manage to finish this weekend was a layout using Cilenia’s new School Days kit at Digital Designer Shop. The kit is enormous, with so many different papers, elements and add-ons. It was tough picking out just a few to use on a layout.

We had a great opportunity this week. While Tommy was at National Jamboree this week, Elysse and I had the opportunity to go to New Smyrna Beach and stay at a friend’s condo. We went to the beach and pool during the day (the pool was like bathwater it was so warm), read 5 or 6 books between the two of us, walked on the beach each evening picking up seashells. The walks and the seashells is something we’ve done over the past several years. We have a jar that’s full holding them all. I’m going to have to get another jar! We even went out to the beach one night at about 11:00. There was a gorgeous orange moon out over the ocean.

I was able to watch the live Arena Show at the National Jamboree online last night. You could see a veritable sea of scouts and scouters in the area. It was awe inspiring to me to know that my son was out there and a part of that evening! It made me really proud of our involvement in scouting.
