Another set of scout pages

I finally decided to get another Boy Scout album and just not worry about the fact that I have so much STUFF that it will need two books to hold it all! Joann’s had a sale and I ordered the second one and the Eagle Scout album to start on next. I am SO PROUD of that kid! I guess I should feel blessed that I have enough documentation saved that I need two books to put it all in.

Here’s the latest ones.  I’m up to 2009 now.

Getting down to the line on Tommy’s scouting scrapbooks now

I’ve spent about a week solid with my free time focused on Tommy’s scout scrapbook. Of course, his cub scout one has been finished for years, done all paper with the exception of I think two digital layouts toward the end. The boy scout album has been in progress since about 2005 or 2006, mostly all paper too. I have done several digital ones, especially focused on his high adventure trips toward the end.  But I have so much STUFF (calendars, programs, certificates, badges, etc) that I have to DO something with.  I feel like I need to include  the program if he’s mentioned and I have photos of it.  Then, I get stuck in the “which page goes where” dilemma.  I was actually STRESSING the other night about what would go where.  THIS is why I don’t do chronological anymore with my personal stuff.  But I do feel like I need to stick with that framework in this context considering I have 9 years done that way.

I’ll be able to do a little more digi soon as I’m now getting into the time when I actually have digital photos to use.  I really don’t need the books done until his Eagle Ceremony which won’t be for a few months, but I consider I’ve had years to get caught up with this and haven’t done it so I have to focus and make some serious progress.

I’m now up to the end of 2008.  2009 to present have three drawers full of memorabilia to get in there.  Go divided page protectors!

A blast from Elysse’s past

Ever since I started scanning older photos, I’ve occasionally run across one or two that I’ve tagged with a “to scrap” tag because they’ve been just TOO CUTE for words.  These Barney photos are some of them. It’s not that I haven’t scrapped that time of the kids lives but that was pre LOM back when I was doing everything chronologically.  I’m sure they are scrapped somewhere but not with the same emotion that I can work up almost 20 years later when remembering that “I Love You” song with its smarmy lyrics.  It deserved a revisit!

Another one from my wish list

There is an Alan Jackson song “Home” that I’ve always loved. It made me think of my grandfather, how he trained himself in a new career to better his family, built his own business, built it to a point that people would drive all the way across Orlando for HIM to fix their transmission. If they couldn’t pay, he would work on a payment plan or take things in trade.  Customers appreciated his honesty and integrity. Apparently enough of them did and mentioned it that the Rotary Club gave him an award.  Grandma knew he’d never agree to attend if he knew it was for him, too humble, wouldn’t have wanted the attention.  So, she told him Daddy was getting the award and it was a surprise.  Our whole family was there to see him receive the award.  He was so surprised it was for him and very emotional about it.

The Rotary Club has a 4 Way Test:

1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to All Concerned?
3. Will it Build GOODWILL and Better Friendships?
4. Will it Be BENEFICIAL to All Concerned?

During the award ceremony they talked about the four tests and gave examples of comments they’d received about him. I was very proud of him that day!

Another one

This one is a blast from the past!  When I was looking through some old photos to scan, I found one of me when I was working at Hubbard probably while in college based on the length of my hair and the fact that I was wearing contacts instead of glasses.  I was wearing one of the torn type blouses, mini skirt, high heel pumps, and black hose. (At least it wasn’t the fishnets because I REMEMBER wearing them with that outfit!) Where did I get that photo?  Did Daddy take it and keep it for blackmail.  Was it a co-worker?

I put it in my “to be scrapped” spot waiting for a nice time. Now that I’m trying to get some FUN stuff done, I scrapped it!

If this outfit doesn’t make you smile, Elysse… I don’t know what will!

No challenge, no kit… just what I wanted to use

I did a layout finally. I’ve been feeling a little burned out lately, worrying about “using the right stuff”. I think my idea was great to jump in and do the Lilypad challenges but sometimes I just want to play with my pretties.  I pick up kits here and there because they catch my eye for one reason or another, bright colors, cute elements, fun wordart, new techniques to try and then they just sit there and I don’t use them.  I want to USE THEM!  Mix and match, pull things that seem to go together, have fun again.

More mojo…

Finally worked on a new layout, Lilypad Challenge for October.  This one is about windows.  This made me think of finally getting a window office at work.  I’d been there 15 years, always back in the back room with no sunlight.  Now, I had a HUGE work space, can never complain about that, but really envied seeing the sun during the day.  When Dal retired, I asked Charlie if I could PLEASE have windows.  I was really excited when he said yes.  It took a while for Dal to actually move his things out (retiring is tough when you’ve been very work focused all your life) but finally it was empty. I got it painted pink, drew diagrams and measured to see if everything would fit into the space.  The biggest hurdle was moving out the HUGE double map drawer units into the back area, then moving all the file cabinets around. Charlie even suggested a black and white zebra rug with hot pink edge that is just so ME!

I  do love my windows!  Still really enjoy the sunlight each and every day!

Back to P365

If it weren’t for Elysse sending me pictures, I would NEVER be able to say I’m caught up with even the photos.  But my layouts are really far behind.  I’ve GOT to get caught up with this.
