We Are Glass

There is a song on the radio now by Thompson Square which has been resonating with me. It’s the line about how we are the light that we LET shine through us.  So we are what we show people from inside of us. I find that to be a very positive message.

Another blast from the past

Occasionally I get an idea for a layout for all of these childhood photos of me that I’ve scanned in.  This one is about my Leif Garrett album that I got for Christmas. Like every other 12 year old girl of the time, I LOVED Tiger Beat Magazine!

Speed Scrap at the Lilypad

I just finished hosting my first speed scrap at the Lilypad! It was a lot of fun! and a little nerve-wracking…

I wanted to make it NOT too easy and NOT too difficult but still a little challenging. I think I stumped a few on the “visual triangle” idea.  I probably should have come up with a good way to describe that BEFORE the chat, not during.  Hopefully, it turned out okay.

Turned out to have nine people submit layouts so I’ll call it a success!

Read a post this week at the Lilypad…

The title was This Changed My Life, so of course I had to go and read that.

It was about some actions from Anna Forrest at Pickleberry Pop that will help do your layout credits for you (Credit Tracker).  Keeping track of credits does take a while so I thought I’d give it a shot.  Of course, once I got to looking I found a few other actions I NEEDED as well. Loading actions into PSE is NOT an easy task so I put it off until Friday night. Could not seem to figure it out! So I finally decided to email the designer. She responded within a few minutes and several emails later I got it working!

It is really cool! It will take a while to make sure that I get the credit tracker run on each one of my files but that will just become a part of my download/tagging process from now on. It plays well with ACDSEE but you have to make sure it is done on an unzipped folder instead of a zipped one. ACDSee spoils us with opening both zip and unzip easily but this needs to happen in an unzipped folder. I did my first layout last night using the credit tracker for links and it worked great.  I only had to add the link info for the font but that was pretty easy.

I would highly recommend the action.  It provides several ways of keeping track of credits including store name, bulletin board language and saving in the file info of you layout.

A new layout

I saw a new kit at the Lilypad this weekend that I thought was a hoot!  It’s by Lauren Grier called Camera Shy.  It’s full of bright colors, doodles and the cutest word art imaginable. Of course, this is NOT a problem I have with my own kids. They’ve always smiled for the camera willingly, just used to the fact that cameras are a fact of life, I guess. No bribery, no tricks, they’ve just never seemed to mind.

So I wanted to do a layout about that:

Journaling reads:

Apparently, I’m really lucky that my kids will always smile for the camera. Even when they were small, it was never an issue. Have I worn them down, broke their spirits so that they will comply? I don’t think so, I think they genuinely enjoy it. We routinely have family photo shoots where we take TONS of pics trying to get just the right one. I don’t even get the “rolling eyes”! Guess I’m just lucky… But I already knew that!

A post about Tommy going on his summer trip

Journaling reads

And so it begins… my baby left this morning for a two week scout trip. Every other time he’s left for that long, Elysse has been home with me. This year, she’s stayed in Boca. So, I’ll have two weeks of solitude. Two weeks to watch NCIS and catch up on Fringe and Bones. Two weeks to eat what I want (probably won’t include pizza and potatoes)

Two weeks of basically talking to no one except the dog and cats who ARE pretty good listeners and answering the phone at work. Two weeks of no activities except what I choose. This is a precursor… a test… a sample of what my life will be like in a few years when he has REALLY gone away. So, tonight I wonder

Will I be okay?

Another Birthday Layout for Elysse

I just HAD to document Ashley’s “You don’t waste 12 1/2 % ” quote from that night.

Journaling reads:
Mana gave you several small champagne bottles as a 21st birthday gift. As the girls were getting all dressed up to go out dancing, one of them found the stash of little bottles. Ashley, Sara and Natalie opened some and tasted it. The looks on their faces were absolutely priceless! I don’t think any of them appreciated the dryness of it but as Ashley said “You don’t waste 12 1/2 %” (the alcohol content).
So that became the quote of the evening! You girls each used champagne bottles as props in their impromptu photo shoot before they all left to go out. You wanted to make sure that Mana got to see that her gifts were appreciated. They didn’t like the taste of the champagne but they did drink it anyway… because you know – you can’t waste 12 1/2 %!

Summer Fun List

I did a layout documenting the plans that the kids had for fun this summer.  I thought the His and Hers idea split down the middle might be fun.  I thought all the “real life” items in One Little Bird’s  Scenes from Real Life kit would be a great base.  I think The Everyday might be my very most favorite of Heather Hess’ fonts right now!

One Little Bird Scenes from Real Life
Kim Jensen Because I Said Sew
Valorie Wibbens Tape Ups #2
Gina Miller Cabana Wordart
Heather Hess The Everyday and The Everyday Bold

2 new layouts for Something Old Something New 50% off sale 7/11/12

I’m still working on layouts for Elysse’s 21’st birthday celebrations.

The blue one:

Gina Miller Photographers Storyboard #8 and Cabana
Kim Jensen Bloomin’ Baubles
Designs by Lili Date Circles 3 and Mixed Arrows
Lauren Grier Free as a Bird
Heather Hess The Liana
The burgundy and black one:
Gina Miller Photographers Storyboard #10
Amy Wolff For the Girls (dots and damask) and Messy Marvin
Lauren Grier Free as a Bird
Allison Pennington Flocked
Designs by Lili Date Circles 3 and Painted Words
Jenn Barrette Chin Up Buttercup
Gina Miller My Life
Heather Hess The Valeria
Both use some of Gina Miller’s new Photographer Storyboards.  The aqua Cabana papers matched the water just so. I thought the Amy Wolff papers and the Lauren Grier elements were just perfect for the Lovin’ Life layout.  Those wings screamed out Ashley’s name to me!
