Another 10-10-10 layout

I finally finished my 10-10-10 for August, pretty pathetic that it’s the end of September but at least I’m FAIRLY current. I do like using these Yin templates, especially the 24×12 ones.  Nice size photos, still graphic but a little different.  The 24×12 canvas lends itself to using LOTS of embellishments and multi-event layouts do call out for lots of descriptions.

Anway, I like the way it turned out.  August really was a change filled month, lots of things going on.  We spent quite a bit of time moving the kids bedrooms.  Tommy’s old room was green and Elysse painted it bright TEAL. Her room was lavender and it is now Patriot blue and grey. But he now has a walk in closet and his own bathroom.  I even redecorated the guest bath.  I guess I need to do a little layout about that ; )

New little angel at my house

Her name is Alice. She’s Tommy’s new kitten and she is adorable. Some friends (who are allergic) found a kitten and were looking for some lucky sucker, I mean volunteer, to adopt her. I’ve always said I didn’t want any more pets and definitely not a cat because Aladdin is a kitty-litter-flinger.  It absolutely bugs me to no end to keep stepping in kitty litter. Jedi is my dog, Aladdin is Elysse’s cat and I felt that any more pets needed to be his. When we got there, she had escaped and was hiding up in the undercarriage of a neighbor’s truck. It took Tommy and Stephan to get her out of there. Tommy held her for a long while and I finally looked at him and he nodded. He wanted to keep her.  We stayed for a little while and took her home via Publix for a kitten chow fix.

She visited a few rooms last night and proved her mastery of the cat box. One hurdle passed with flying colors! We managed to get her to eat too which is really good as she is really a little skinny. She slept with Tommy in his bed. Today she’s visited with the dog and the cat, tracked around the house a little, played with some toys, jumped up and down. She’s napped in Tommy’s bed and on the kitchen nook chairs. She seems to be acclimating well.

A layout idea came to me last night when I was thinking about Tommy meeting her. I asked what he wanted to name her and he said “Alice”, no hesitation. I wondered why?  He said because she kept disappearing.  Cute idea, huh? Anyway, I immediately thought of Cilenia’s handdrawn hearts in the Art Box and Love of Art kits.

A brush layout

I did another layout with brushes but definitely not as complex as Tiffany Tillman’s for class. I’m feeling a little better about it now though. I realize I don’t use brushes very often at all, so my using them a little is more than I have been. I’m getting more comfortable with my own style, still very graphic but enjoying the hint of playground with embellishments, clusters and groupings. I’m more enthused to scrap when I have an idea in mind. Trying to come up with a way to use a complex mask just isn’t my way of scrapping or thinking. Perhaps, it’ll start to be more natural and when I DO have one of those ideas that includes the mask thing, I’ll be able to do it.

I’m following the “get the story told” approach and it’s working for me. I used another story idea from the box I started during LOM. It sits right next to my computer and has all kinds of ideas in it.

New layout

Another new one!  Started out trying to work on a layout for Tiffany’s brush class.  I really wanted to use the new Autumn Time papers by Honey Scraps because I knew they’d be perfect with the most gorgeous new photo of Tommy.  I ended up just playing with some new brushes by Anna Aspnes.  I didn’t make a complex mask but I DID make a layout I really like.   I’ll do the complex mask on another.  It’s really tough to use swirly brushes on a layout about a teenage boy.  I need some more BOY brushes!

On a different note, work is really busy and really… kind of depressing right now.  Economic situation like everyone else, I know but it really stinks to have layoffs.  Seems like most of my day is spent looking at forecasts and cash flow and budgets.  I had a bright spot today!  It may not seem like much to other people but I’m going to get a window and sunshine!!  I can’t complain really, I’ve had the most HUGE room at work that just has me in it but it is also almost a storage/inventory/box storage/computer workshop on the other side.  One gentleman (he’s 91) is “Retiring” and his office has a door, three windows and actual sunshine!  I haven’t seen the sun from where I work… really ever I think.  I’ve had an office before but never sunshine.  I asked my boss if I could have it and he said yes!  I now know I’ll use Window for my W in the ABC class.

ABC project at Digital Designer Shop

They are going to start an ABC project over at Digital Designer Shop next week. We got a sneak peek at a kit and some templates.  Love them!  Room for lots of photos and tons of embellishments to make the project your own.  I’m looking forward to using the templates for other layouts too.

geez!  What’s with this HUGE font??  I’ll have to figure that out!

Another layout

I love long weekends!  Since I’d found a new group of photos I wanted to scrapbook with her NHS inductions I pulled out a new paper set I hadn’t used and got to work.  The Summer Elements paper pack by Honey Scraps at Digital Designer Shop has such bright colors I knew they would work perfectly with her crown photos.

Elysse is home tonight.  She texted at 2:00 that she was sorry and just woke up.  I went outside to put recycling in the bin and she was standing next to her car in the driveway. I’d completely bought it! She was happy I wasn’t mad. We drove over to Daddy and Sharon’s for a Labor Day dinner complete with spaghetti and lasagna.  For dessert, we had two kinds of dump cake and I made praline brownies to die for.  We took a bunch of pictures.  I’m downloading now and hopefully will get some posted here.

I have two more scrapbook layouts kind of rolling around in my mind.  I hope to get to work on at least one of them tomorrow after Elysse heads back and Tommy goes to the Peraltas for a game day.

This is a layout I’ve pictured in my mind for more than six months.  Back when I was taking the Library of Memories class and going through all my digital photos, I noticed all the feet pictures my family takes.  We also take reflection pictures but that’s a future layout ; ).  I actually created a feet category in LOM.  I’ve been wanting to showcase a bunch of them on one layout.  Then, I tossed in the name of Tommy’s band show Oh, the Places You’ll Go and went with a bold, primary theme.  This is one of my very favorite layouts I’ve ever done!
